The Art of Post Processing
Eric Hageman gave a very informative and thought-provoking talk to the club Thursday, January 8th about the art of post processing. He began with the history of photography, spoke about some of the renowned photographers who really “set the stage” for photography today. A very interesting point that Eric brought up was that since the very first days of film and darkrooms, not only have photographers been post-processing with a very complicated procedure for dodging and burning, but also they did sky replacements! Who knew?! Well, Eric did! He gave us the background so that, in today’s world with people accusing photographers of “photoshopping” or using “AI”, we have an intelligent explanation to provide: photographers have always had to develop photos and that’s exactly what we have to do with our raw files out of camera. We are putting our style on our photos in much the same way Ansel Adams, Edward Weston, and many other pioneers in photography throughout the century have done. Great talk, Eric!
