Lisa Langell is a Leader in Photography Education
Many of our club members met Lisa at the MAPV conference where she was scheduled to speak but also stepped up to the plate when another presenter fell ill. When someone can fill in as well as Lisa did on-the-spot, you know this lady knows her stuff! So after hearing her talks at MAPV, many club members were tuned in and ready to hear her on another topic that we had already had on the books for our November Speaker Night: How to Photograph Nature in High Key.
Lisa began by showing many beautiful examples of high key nature photos, then delved into what constitutes high key and how to do that genre of photography in nature. She also presented a viewpoint that is often overlooked with photographers looking to jump into the business end of photography: focus on what will look good on the wall and not just what looks good on the screen. A photo might be a fantastic photo and win competitions, but it might not sell well because it could be a subject you just wouldn’t want on your wall such as a bear eating a bloody fish, OR the photo might be in bright colors that wouldn’t coordinate in a room easily.
I personally learned a lot through her presentation and it was evident she inspired many club members, as they began posting their attempts at high key nature photography on our club’s FB page! Our January competition is “High Key/Low Key”, so Lisa gave us a head start on preparing for that competition! If you aren’t familiar with Lisa, you need to be! https://www.langellphotography.com. Lisa leads many photo workshops, as well.
